The bow and arrow gallop toward inspired arguments, spiraling discussions, and the rabbit holes found in the half-beast, half-human sign of our zodiac: Sagittarius. Here, our beloved Mercury stands in direct opposition to his airy, quick-paced domicile of Gemini. The ancients called this condition “detriment” or “exile”—a state that brings forth the chaos, misfires, and inspired impulses this retrograde unleashes.
Let’s dive deeper into navigating, understanding, and remediating this path of flames that Mercury in Sagittarius illuminates with the relation of Mercury as the shepherd to the otherness that walks in these darker, liminal spaces of the year.

Mercury’s Neutral Nature & the place of the Centaurs‘ non-humanness.
The twinkling one—Hermes—is a neutral planet whose significations shift based on the planets witnessing or co-present with him in your nativity. He serves the benefic, the mischievous, the eloquent, and the nefarious alike. As the key to language, interpretation, and every system of communication, Mercury relays the nature of each sign he traverses. Everything and nothing, possessing both light and darkness, male and female, found above and also below.
They also visit the underworld more frequently than any other planet through their retrograde cycles and is highlighted in Greek myth as the one guiding the humans to the place of eternal rest.
The “meeting the white rabbit” trend on TikTok currently reflects those points in our spheres where the adventure and inspiration were pivoted by the fates, and the shape our actions and creations took in the months of October and November.
The rabbit is the figure that brings Alice into the garden of her own frenzy and underworld of her own creation is ushered by the rabbit, playing the psychopomp who cleverly states in this tale: “Curiosity often leads to trouble” and how her own ideas were too otherly for the victorian time this tale was crafted, symbolising the non-human spirits and places our psyche and logos visit to bring forth our ideas and gallops toward, victory ( always the goal of a saggitarian one would say, for good and everything inbetween found throught the journey that inspires or limits the flames of compulsion).
The sign of Sagittarius itself helps us understand why repetition, reevaluation, and re-ignition are essential here. Vettius Valens writes:
“Those born here are good, just, great-souled, critical, generous, fond of brothers and friends; those who diminish what they first acquired but acquire them again; those who prevail over enemies, lovers of reputation, versatile, notable, those who weave manners in a riddling fashion.”

As we approached the retrograde station on November 10, 2025, distortions had already begun forming. Mercury’s passage through Scorpio accumulated silent irritations—distaste, suspicion, subterranean truths—culminating in the retrograde pivot under Mars’ fiery governance.
The Moon’s opposition immediately following the Taurus full moon further agitated emotional clarity and schedules, accelerating confusion and inflaming miscommunication.
Abū Maʿshar reminds us of Sagittarius’s volatile nature:
“Its illnesses are like blindness and the loss of an eye. It indicates baldness, falling from high places, injuries from riding animals and beasts of prey… and the like.”

Those in Mercury-ruled years or with Sagittarius highlighted in solar revolutions should be mindful of these classical manifestations as Mercury prepares to leave the centaur’s terrain and make sense of the scorpion fixed ire and rancor that will be acted upon again or attempted to be purified of its sin and purged by the waning moon’s emptiness and void.
The Descent Back Into Scorpio
On November 19, 2025, Mercury retrogrades back into Scorpio, entering the third decan—a deeply chthonic landscape. Here, the retrograde becomes more psychological, shaded, and brings the aftertaste of the telson’s jab.

FOLK AND ASTROLOGICAL REMEDIATION FOR MERCURY RETROGRADE
Using the nights of Mercury to pray to the “Media unidad” and the parts of our prayer that connect with those spirits in our court that help transmute and send to the bowels of Tartarus the worries and fixed plateaus we are activating so frivolously about currently in the sign of Sagitarius.
Alan Kardec gives us two prayers to overcome the frivolous temptations that Mercury in Sagittarius, both direct and retrograde, will bring our way.
